In 1957, Roy Weatherby changed the face of American firearms with the introduction of the Mark V® bolt action. Three rings of steel surrounding the case head. Fluted bolt with three gas ports. Nine locking lugs and a short 54-degree bolt lift. The Mark V was billed as the world's strongest action and the ideal complement to the ultra-high velocity, magnum cartridges which he so successfully promoted. Put simply, for those who wanted the ultimate in speed and power, particularly on the biggest and most dangerous animals, the Weatherby Mark V Magnum system had no equal. It remains so today.

The one-piece forged Mark V bolt for standard calibers was designed specifically for the .30-06 case head diameter class of cartridges, including the .240 Weatherby Magnum. Features longitudinal flutes to reduce weight and bearing surface for smooth operation and action. Positive cartridge extraction ejects the fired case without the need for full bolt extraction.

Magnum or Standard Cartridges — The Mark V action for Magnum cartridges (9 lug) is available in 24" and 26" barrels. The Mark V action for standard cartridges (6 lug) is available in 22", 24", and 26" barrels (depending on model). Identical in design, the standard cartridge action is dimensionally smaller and weighs 28% less (25.9 ounces versus 35.9 ounces). Each forged receiver features a one-piece integral recoil lug for superior strength and structural integrity.
