The 30-378 was designed & tested in late 1959 – early 1960 by Weatherby at the request of the United States Army for the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. Loads were to be developed to exceed 4000 FPS & as close to 5000FPS*.
When it was commercially introduced in 1996, it was billed as the world’s fastest 30 caliber cartridge and will push a 30 caliber bullet 3,500 feet per second.

rifle-I was lucky enough to get a Desert Bighorn Sheep Tag-I shot the sheep and he went about 10ft and dropped-I have only one problem in owning the rifle-I can’t seem to get the 180 grain Accubond cartridge-Weatherby advertisers the cartridge but it is never in stock-

Purchased my first MARK V IN 1976 in .300 Wby Mag, bought three more in different calibers before buying a .30-.378 which was the first one I saw at the Powder Horn in Bozeman, MT in 1996 while on a hunting trip. Put a Leupold Mark 4 on it and have never been disappointed! I use my .300 more than any other caliber, but nothing compares to the .30-.378 on hunts that I expect longer shots. In my many years of hunting, I’ve never shot at an animal that that didn’t come home with me. Most fell nearly where shot, none took over a few steps!
There are so many good calibers out there now to choose from, some of which I’ve tried. But none that please me as much as either my .300 or .30-378

Amazing long range rifle. I have taken whitetail, mule deer, elk and moose with 180 gr Accubond from 15yds ( moose) to 1013 yds elk. My go to rifle is my Weatherby 30-378.

I have been shooting the 30-378 since 2005 excellent flat shooting hard hitting round. Have taken elk,mule deer and whitetail out to 600 yards no problem. Grandchildren are using it now and arguing about who is going to get it when I am gone.

Have a MK V in 30-378 set up by Long Range Hunters in WY with a Huskama scope using the 165gr TXS.for my South Dakota 1000 yard rifle. Less than 1′ groups at 200 yards and ground pounds everything. I’ve used it to take whitetail out to a half mile with zero misses and dropped in their tracks. Luckily I purchased five boxes of ammo with gun (when ammo was $15 cheaper) and still have 3+ boxes left after LRH used 14 rounds to set up rifle, 6 on deer and the rest for practice.

I have been trying to purchase Weatherby 30-378 130 grain TTSX ammo for months. Why is it so difficult to find? If it’s not available at Weatherby.com, there’s a problem.
